Spotlight Dancer/Troupe
Tribal Troupe from Tokyo
First of all I should say that we don’t actually have a troupe name and that we are not a permanent troupe, but we are all members of the same studio. Our troupe was put together by our instructor Miho
Miyagawa. We have all danced previously at other events both as solo and as a part of other troupes.
Our studio is called ‘Studio ritam’ it’s situated in the centre of Tokyo, Japan and is ran by Miho, as well as being the main instructor there she is also a very well known and talented dancer herself.
Our group was put together to perform at a special event in March 2007, this was the first time that we had all danced together as a troupe. We had about 3 months before the event to work out our routine and practice.
At the actual event everything went really well and we all enjoyed ourselves and although we have not made any immediate plans to dance together again it would be nice to as we all get along well.
Our troupe members are: Ayumi, Maki, Romy, Akiko, and Ikuko

I just love the way it feels when I am belly dancing! In 2003 I started to learn Belly Dance from Miho Miyagawa who is one of the pioneers in Japan and to perform at different kind of events and shows as a member of Miho’s studio troupe
“Huriler”. I started to teach from 2004. I also organized Oriental Fusion Duo called “Oriental Vibe”
(AYUMI & SHOKO) from the end of 2006. We are regularly dancing at some bars and clubs in Tokyo.

I have done many kinds of dancing and I am also a qualified Yoga instructor, I am now absorbed in belly dancing so much. When I started belly dancing in 2003 I didn’t have any composure. Currently I am dancing in lessons and events as a part of daily life. I enjoy dancing and performing. For me, belly dancing is the one that teaches me how I want to be as a woman. I am so happy to have found belly dancing and to have met so many fabulous people.
Romy
I started learning jazz dance during elementary school when I lived in NY.
I've done cheerleading, jazz, ballet, flamenco, chorus,
acting, piano... all kinds of performances. But when I began learning belly dance from 2004, I knew this was what I was looking for!
I am fulfilled when I am belly dancing, energy comes from within me, I feel so free and happy!
Recently I've started dancing at events and restaurants. Hope I can teach some day!
Akiko
I have always liked dancing very much and before I discovered belly dancing I used to learn other kinds of dance including among others modern dance and ballroom dancing.
I started belly dancing about two years ago at ‘Studio ritam’. I have been deeply fascinated by belly dance’s exotic atmosphere, beautiful costumes and great music. It was the dance what I was looking for and I especially liked the tribal style.
The first time I saw tribal belly dancing, I promptly fell in love with the style. So, It was so much fun for me to dance in this tribal troupe. I am continually working to improve my dancing!!
Ikuko

I have been belly dancing in Japan since 2004, I have also taken a number of workshops and some lessons in London (I lived in the U.K. for 2yrs). Belly Dancing is part of my life and it gives me a lot of energy and joy. I am interested in both oriental style and tribal style and the costumes and
jewelry that go with it.
I have just recently started an online shop selling tribal jewelry and accessories called “Tribal Spice” please take a look but I must warn you it’s mostly in Japanese.
